This is a lovely set of married couple Kokeshi dolls with warm, gentle smiles.
One special feature is the beautiful kanji characters on each doll.
● The male Kokeshi has the character 「福」(Fuku)
This means happiness, good fortune, and is often used in words related to luck.
● The female Kokeshi has the character 「寿」(Kotobuki)
This represents longevity and celebration and is used in words related to a long life.
Both characters are very auspicious and bring positive energy!
Each doll's head can move slightly, allowing them to face each other when displayed together.
The patterns on their bodies also have special meanings:
● Male Kokeshi → Turtle, Plum, Bamboo
● Female Kokeshi → Crane, Pine
In Japan, "A crane lives for 1,000 years, and a turtle lives for 10,000 years."
Both are symbols of long life and good fortune.
Additionally, the Pine (Matsu), Bamboo (Take), and Plum (Ume) together form Shōchikubai (松竹梅), a well-known lucky combination in Japan.
Pine → Longevity & Health
Bamboo → Strength & Growth
Plum → Nobility & Longevity

Since this is a vintage item, there are some minor scuffs, but overall, it is in excellent condition.
